When it comes to our environment and our community, we’re making considered choices and continuously improving our approach.
Each of our bags is carefully constructed with quality materials and designed to last. We hope that by creating quality and long-lasting products which are loved by our customers, we can do our part in minimising the impact of fast fashion on textile waste.
Since 2021 our bags have been manufactured using fabrics spun from recycled PET bottles, reducing this waste from landfills and oceans.
Globally, we produce about 400 million tons of plastic waste yearly and it’s estimated that between 75 and 199 million tonnes of plastic are currently in our oceans.
The materials in our totes gives a second life to this waste.
Our recycled fabrics also require significantly less energy and resources compared to virgin fabrics.
The fabrics used in our bags meet the Standard 100 by Oeko-Tek, the highest standard for testing textile for harmful substances.
Our bags are mailed to you in a combination of compostable bags and recyclable boxes. We are currently working with our manufacturers to reduce plastic packaging along the supply chain.
The Friday People totes are made by an amazing team of makers. In our extensive research, we found the best manufacturers for long lasting and quality bags are located in China where there is the greatest access to sustainable fabrics, high quality zippers and hardware and knowledgeable and experienced makers.
We only partner with small family run factories who provide safe and fair working conditions for their staff. Our manufacturing partner uses quality controllers to regularly assess the working conditions for makers to ensure they are working in safe conditions, work regular hours, get regular breaks, are paid fairly and that there is no child or slave labour.
Our makers produce our items slowly and produce batches in low minimum quantities to ensure that quality is the main priority and workers can focus on one bag at a time.
We are proud to partner with Ecologi to reduce our environmental impact.
As you know, a critical part of tackling the climate crisis and keeping our temperatures from continuing to rise is to plant trees. Trees are also crucial to preventing ecological collapse.
Ecologi invests in projects that remove more greenhouse gasses than our carbon footprint puts in. Ecologi works with tree planting partner The Eden Reforestation Projects to plant millions of trees around the world each month including planting projects in Madagascar, Indonesia, the Phillipines, Brazil and Nepal.
Each month Ecologi picks the best CO2 reduction projects with Gold Standard certification, the highest rated projects which make the most impact possible.
